If a text didn’t reach a customer, Autopilot usually tells you why. Start by checking the message itself, then work through the common causes below.
Step 1: check the message #
Open the conversation in Conversations. A failed text shows a red warning. Click it to see the status (Failed or Undelivered) and the error code or reason. Note the code down.
Common causes and fixes #
-
The customer opted out. They replied STOP before, so texts to them are blocked. Only they can opt back in. See How opt-outs work.
-
Do Not Disturb is on for the contact. Check the contact record and switch off DND for SMS if they are happy to hear from you.
-
Wrong or landline number. Check the number on the contact. UK mobiles start 07, or +447 in international format. Landlines can’t receive texts.
-
Phone off or no signal. “Undelivered” can simply mean the phone was unreachable. Try again later or call instead.
-
Blocked as spam by the network (error 30007). Mobile networks filter texts that look like spam. Make it personal, say who you are, avoid shortened links and words like “FREE!!!”, and don’t send the same text to lots of people at once. Use drip mode for groups.
-
Your phone number isn’t fully set up. UK numbers need an approved business registration (regulatory bundle) before they can send. See How to get your Autopilot phone number.
-
No credit. If your credit runs out, texts stop. See How to top up credits.
Good to know #
- Don’t keep resending a blocked message. Change the wording first, or the network may keep blocking you.
- Too many opt-outs or complaints can pause texting on your account. Only text people who expect to hear from you.
- Texts that fail at the network can still be charged, because the network has already processed them.
