How to see where your leads come from

Autopilot records where each lead came from, so you can see which ads and channels actually bring you work.

Before you start #

  • The source is recorded when someone fills in an Autopilot form, survey or booking calendar, or starts a chat in the chat widget.
  • To see which ad a lead came from, your ad links need tracking codes (UTM parameters). Without them, ad clicks may show up as “Direct” or “Social Media”.

Steps #

  1. Check a single contact

Open Contacts and click a contact. In the contact record, find the attribution details: First attribution (how they found you the first time) and Latest attribution (their most recent visit before they enquired).

  2. See all your leads by source

Go to Reporting → Attribution report to see your leads grouped by source over a date range.

  3. Check your ad reports

In Reporting, the Google Ads and Meta Ads (Facebook Ads) report tabs show results per campaign once your ad accounts are connected and tracking codes are in place.

What the sources mean #

  • Paid Search: Google (or Bing) ads.
  • Paid Social: Facebook, Instagram or other social ads.
  • Organic Search: free Google, Bing or other search results.
  • Social Media: unpaid posts and profiles on social media.
  • Referral: a link on another website.
  • Direct Traffic: someone typed your address or the source is unknown.
  • Others: a call, text, email or social message.
  • CRM UI: you or your team added the contact by hand.
  • Third-Party: another app sent the contact in.

Good to know #

  • First attribution never changes. Latest attribution updates with each new visit.
  • Tracking codes are case-sensitive. Copy them exactly, without extra spaces.
  • Visitors must fill in the form on the page the ad sent them to. If they click through to another page first, the ad details can be lost.
