How to edit the text of an automated SMS or email

Change the words Autopilot sends in its automatic texts and emails, so they sound like your business.

Steps #

  1. Automation → Workflows → open the automation

Find the automation that sends the message and open it.

  2. Click the SMS or email step

The step opens in a panel on the right.

  3. Edit the message

For a text, change the words in the message box. For an email, change the Subject and the Email Body. Use custom values such as the contact’s first name to make each message personal.

  4. Send yourself a test

Enter your own number or email and send a test, so you see exactly what customers will get.

  5. Save Action, then Save

Click Save Action on the step, then Save the automation. If it is already published, your change goes live straight away.

Good to know #

  • Keep texts short and friendly. Long texts count as more than one message and use more credits.
  • You cannot attach files to a text. Add a link instead.
  • If a custom value comes out blank, that detail is missing on the contact. Fill it in or use a wording that works without it.
  • Changes only affect messages sent from now on.
