Customers can stop your marketing texts by replying STOP. Autopilot handles this for you and keeps you on the right side of the rules.
What happens when someone replies STOP #
- Autopilot turns on Do Not Disturb (DND) for texts on that contact, so no more texts are sent to them. STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT all work.
- Automations skip texts to that contact from then on.
- You can still see their details and past messages in Contacts and Conversations, and you can still email them unless they opted out of email too.
Check your opt-out settings #
-
Settings → Phone System → Messaging
Open the Messaging Compliance tab.
-
Opt-Out Message & Sender ID
Keep Make SMS compliant by adding an opt out message ticked. Autopilot adds a line such as “Reply STOP to Unsubscribe”. Click Customize to change the wording.
-
Sender information
Keep Make SMS compliant by adding a sender information ticked, so customers know who the text is from. Check it shows your business name, and click Customize if it does not.
-
Enable Periodic Opt-Out
With this on, the opt-out line is added to the first text a contact gets and then again every set number of days, not to every message. Click Save after any change.
Good to know #
- UK rules say marketing texts must give people an easy way to opt out. Leave these settings on.
- Do not text a contact again by another route after they reply STOP, unless they ask you to.
- If you already end your own texts with an opt-out line such as “Reply STOP to unsubscribe”, Autopilot does not add a second one.
- If a customer opts out by mistake and wants your texts again, email support@77labs.ai. Texts can only be switched back on when the customer has clearly asked for it.
