Use tags to group contacts and custom fields to store the details that matter to your business.
Tags or custom fields? #
- Tags are labels, such as “Roof clean”, “Regular customer” or “Facebook lead”. A contact can have many. Use them to filter lists and start automations.
- Custom fields store a piece of information, such as roof type, property size or last service date. Each contact has one value per field.
Add a tag to a contact #
-
Contacts → open a contact
Find the Tags section on the contact.
-
Add a tag
Search for a tag or type a new one, select it and apply it.
Manage your tags #
Go to Settings → Tags to see all your tags, create new ones, rename them or remove ones you no longer use.
Create a custom field #
-
Settings → Custom Fields
Make sure Contact is selected. You can also reach this from the Custom Fields tab in Contacts.
-
Create field
Choose a Field type, for example single line for short text, dropdown for a fixed list of choices, date, or monetary for an amount.
-
Name it
Enter the Field name your team will see and choose a folder to keep things tidy. Check the preview, then create the field.
Good to know #
- Keep tag names short and consistent. “Roof clean” and “roof cleaning” count as two different tags.
- Custom fields can be used in messages, so a text can mention the customer’s roof type or last visit date.
- Create custom fields before you import a list, so your extra columns have somewhere to go.
- A custom field’s object cannot be changed later, so check Contact is selected before you create it.
