Bring your existing customers into Autopilot in one go, so you can send them reminders, offers and review requests.
Before you start #
- You need to be an Admin on your Autopilot account.
- Save your list as a CSV file (Excel and Google Sheets can both do this with “Save as” or “Download”). Keep it to one sheet and under 30 MB.
- The first row must be headings, for example First Name, Last Name, Phone, Email.
- Every row needs at least a name, a phone number or an email.
- If you want to bring in extra details that Autopilot does not have a field for, create custom fields first.
Steps #
-
Contacts → Import
Click Contacts, then Import at the top right.
-
Choose what to import
Choose Contacts. You can also choose Contacts and Opportunities if your list includes jobs in progress. Click Next.
-
Upload your file
Upload your CSV and choose whether to add new contacts, update existing ones, or both.
-
Match your columns
Match each column in your file to a field in Autopilot. Leave columns unmatched if you do not need them.
-
Choose your options
Add a tag, such as “Imported customers”, so you can find this group later. You can also create a Smart List for them.
-
Confirm and start
Check the summary, confirm you have permission to contact these people, and start the import.
Good to know #
- You can follow the import in Contacts → Bulk Actions. Big lists can take a few minutes.
- Remove duplicate rows from your file first. Existing contacts are matched by email or phone.
- Format phone numbers with +44 where you can.
- Try a small file with a few rows first, then import the rest.
Troubleshooting #
If some rows did not import, open the import in Bulk Actions and download the error list. Fix those rows and import them again.
